Keto Guide – Net Carbs (Inc. Polyols).

Hello my fat adapted family! Here’s MY guide to ketosis.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2ZqwP4EFpb6TjIA6gR3Z02idyqZMw_TO

Today’s topic is net carbs.

I just want to clarify that these are MY opinions (and my research) as someone who has been in ketosis for quite a few years now. You may not agree with my guides and that’s okay. This may not be the guide for you. At the end of the day, it’s your keto journey/diet/lifestyle, I’m just putting my 2 cents in here to try and help some people with the information I promote.

SUMMARY:

– Total carbohydrates are the number of carbs in a food (serving).

– Dietary fibre is an insoluble (our body can’t digest it, meaning it doesn’t have an effect on our bloods/insulin) carbohydrate.

– Total carbs – fibre = NET carbs!

– IF YOU ARE IN EUROPE OR OCEANIA YOU DO NOT NEED TO CALCULATE YOUR OWN NET CARBS WHEN BUYING COMMERCIAL FOOD, THIS IS ALREADY DONE FOR US ON OUR NUTRITIONAL LABELLING.

(If you don’t know where the packaging for the product is produced, take the hit and say total carbs in the nets carbs, it may not be worth risking it)

– Polyols aka Sugar Alcohols kind of work the same way that fibre does HOWEVER, SOME sugar alcohols have an effect on the blood sugar.

– Usually you’ll find polyols under the total carbs on low carb protein bars.
With the information above, we know that we cannot remove ALL polyols from the total carbs as it depends on the sugar alcohol used.

Note that polyols can vary from person to person, body to body – try these “low carb” bars at your own risk – they may kick you out of ketosis!

That’s pretty much it!
